I have had the absolute pleasure of photographing so many amazing couples in 2020. Most of them had to downsize their guests list dramatically or chose to just elope instead. Some have decided to have a large party to celebrate their love later and some have decided to skip the traditional wedding all together! I have to admit, if I wasn't "pro" eloping before, I definitely am now. There are so many reasons to elope which I will talk about here! Despite being a crazy year all around, I can't help but feel grateful for all of the moments I did have a chance to photograph.

As an Alberta based wedding photographer, I travel all over the province photographing love stories. From engagements, weddings and even maternity photos, I would love to chat about what you need. If you are looking for an Alberta wedding photographer, make sure to reach out here sooner rather than later! As crazy as it seems, I'm already booking well into 2022.

When should you elope? You have total freedom of timeline.

Want to get married on a weekday? Despite what some of the online wedding blogs say, don't necessarily expect a discount. Don't get me wrong, it's always nice when one is given, but it really shouldn't be expected because it doesn't happen as often as they make it sound. That being said, there are other benefits to having a weekday wedding that you may not have considered. For example, if you're getting married in one of the dreamy more popular Rocky Mountain destination, a weekday will be less busy! That's a huge benefit when you're trying to say your vows or take your photos without a bunch of people in the background. I can always edit them out of course, but the fewer the better!

When you elope, you also have total freedom over the day. You can choose to start your day later, start your day earlier, have a large gap between your ceremony and dinner. Literally, you can do whatever you want. You don't have to worry about anyone else and that is a beautiful thing.

Eloping gives you total freedom to choose your ideal location.

When you have a large guest list, a traditional venue will likely be your easiest and most affordable option. Don't be fooled by the stunning photos of backyard weddings on Pinterest. Those are definitely end up being more expensive because you're basically building a venue venue from nothing. They make it look EASY. When you choose to elope, your possibilities for location are endless. You can have dinner at an intimate restaurant. You can set up a picnic in the middle of the mountains. You can even just elope in your own living room!

Even if don't elope, a small guest list gives you a lot more options for unique venues. This is why most popular wedding blogs will tell you to plan out your guest list before you start looking at venues. It matters more than you think you got to get married.

The main reason you should just elope: you don't have to wait!

Now, if 2020 has taught us anything, at least for me, it's that love can't wait. Sounds cheesy, but it's true. If you don't want to wait another minute for COVID restrictions to be updated, and the stress of it all is ruining what is supposed to be a special day, just elope. I don't blame you if you don't want to wait for your life to start. And despite what you might fear, eloping can feel incredibly special and meaningful. You won't feel like you are "missing out" on anything. And if you do, you can always have a big party to celebrate later. I would be happy to photograph both!
